My son further inquired, “Dad, what other profession would have been of interest to you?” My answer was Engineering or Architecture. Once again, vocations that focus on symmetry, aesthetics and creativity.

So, did I choose correctly? Definitely! And that’s because Prosthodontics offers me one other component that no other job can…and that’s the joy of forming meaningful relationships with my patients and helping them achieve their goals. Happiness and relationships are a fundamental part of my character. I am an extrovert; I love people and there is nothing more rewarding than looking at the delighted expression on a patient’s face as I finish their treatment.

Prosthodontics allows me to restore, conserve and create beautiful and functional mouths and smiles. With the use of specialised dental skills, I am able to achieve optimal results with the use of state of the art dental technology. Today we create dentures, crowns, bridges and veneers that look and feel like real, healthy teeth. Implants have revolutionized dentistry. It has opened up a world of possibilities to create whatever you want to achieve. But you do need advice from a good and experienced Dentist or Prosthodontist. Never take short cuts! It will only lead to heartache.
A beautiful smile mirrors your soul. It opens closed doors, reflects your inner beauty and it breaks down barriers that you didn’t know existed. Everyone deserves a beautiful smile!

The world has become so small with online work and interaction being the new norm. So has staying at home. Our days are blended into one with little diversity of environment and interaction in our lives. Delivery services are the busiest industry and shops are fading out of fashion.

BUT being in the dental field, my work has continued without much change. I have been fortunate enough to keep face to face connection with my staff and patients. My job requires that! I definitely cannot fix teeth online! But I see myself as one of the privileged ones. It allows me to get up and show up at my practice every day. And I get to experience job satisfaction as in the past with very little adjustment besides having to dress like an astronaut every day! Yes, the fear is real and some days I have felt very exposed (and exposing) but I am grateful that my profession has given me the opportunity to continue doing what I love.

As humans we thrive on interaction, we all need others to survive. And even though we have days when we would like to hide away from the world, it only takes some time alone to realise that we do not function well in isolation.

Life's purpose is defined by those we interact with and who we make an impact on. 

My heart goes out to those who have lost their purpose, their loves, their jobs or their lives in 2021.
And I give thanks for small mercies and for all the happy stories I hear.
